Background
As an NVR practitioner & Level 4 Family Practitioner, I have been working in residential homes with Tier 4 (high-risk) young people, helping them work with their trauma, ASD, ADHD, PTSD, anxiety & depression. Each young person is unique, their ways of expressing themselves differ greatly from episodes of missing, self-harm to suicidal ideation.
Focus
In adolescents, it can be extremely challenging to shift their perspective to consider a focus on a bright future. This was fundamental in my decision to work with the parents, using NVR, the success of their future is so much greater, because it does not rely on the child to cooperate, instead the parents and greater supporters model the behaviour they want and address with compassion the main problem by acknowledging their struggles, keeping family relationships a key feature in the young peoples lives.
With early intervention, the right tools and support I believe that parents are the most important part in helping their child to understand how to cope with anxiety & OCD.
